DESIGN PORTFOLIO

MOAT IOS/ANDROID APPS

I am the sole designer and developer of the Moat iOS and Android applications.

The design process started by using Sketch to create a storyboard that guided the development of our alpha & beta products.   Prior to releasing the full production version of the application, I sourced a list of beta testers who used it for several months and answered a series of surveys to guide the final design.

Since launching the product in March of 2019, I have continuously sourced user feedback to rapidly improve the interface, eliminate bugs, and guide the development new features.

MOAT SMART CLIMATE SENSOR

When deciding to create the Moat Smart climate sensor, I was faced with the budgetary constraints of a self-funded business.  This led me to design and manufacture most of the products completely in house.

I carefully modeled a CAD design and used a 3D printer from my garage to manufacture 1000+ device housings in the first ten months.  Since then, it has been updated to an injection molded case and we have generated $260K+ in sales.

Prior to creating the initial design, I spent a lot of time researching similar products and their customer’s feedback to guide my development.  Since the launch, I have meticulously collected customer input and to guide updates that meet market demands.

SOUTHWEST LICE CLINIC WEBSITE

Southwest Lice clinic is determined to become one of the largest lice treatment facilities in the Southwest Chicago area. Their beautiful and intuitive website has helped them stand out from the crowd and rapidly grow awareness of their services.

On a very small budget, I was able to setup a beautiful e-commerce website and all branding assets from scratch, including graphics, a logo,  marketing copy, SEO, color schemes, blog posts, product photos, hosting, payment processing, company email address, appointment scheduling, and more.

SHORE MANAGEMENT WEBSITE

Property management is one of the most competitive service industries around, but Shore Management is quickly growing into one of the largest management firms in San Diego.  Shore’s website is meticulously designed to offer easy navigation for current and potential tenants, while presenting clear and compelling marketing to prospective future customers (property owners).

After thorough analysis and planning, I updated their entire website and created landing pages to quickly harvest new leads which have added more than 20% to their monthly  recurring revenue.

LETENDRE DESIGNS WEBSITE

LeTendre Designs is a boutique shop that sells beautiful, handcrafted Jewelry.  I have redesigned their homepage graphics and navigation structure to create a highly intuitive shopping experience.

Standing out in a hyper-competitive industry such as fine jewelry is extremely difficult.  The online shopping experience can easily make or break a company’s ability to do so.

Most important to creating an enjoyable shopping experience, is creating intuitive pathways to what each customer is looking for.  When you factor in different customer requirements for size, color, price, custom or stock designs, and more, a Jewelry website is an extremely complex experience.

I am working with Letendre Designs to make it easy for customers to find exactly what they are looking for and be delighted by their time on the site.

CTC TC Services Website

PCTC is a rapidly growing transaction coordination company that needed a website to harvest inbound leads and help convert warm leads that are interested in learning more about their organization.

They previously had no website, logo, or branding guidelines in place, so everything needed to be setup from scratch. As a B2C company, it was important the website had a clean and professional look that quickly funnels customers to begin a new transaction with CTC.

On a very small budget, I was able to setup their entire website including the website design, hosting, logo, images, copy editing, forms, and custom css, html, and jquery tools. CTC absolutely loves their new website! They are especially happy that it combines the personality of their founders with a professional and clean feel.

WATERFI WATERPROOF HEADPHONES 2.0

Having gathered more than six years of customer feedback, I performed a complete redesign of Waterfi’s classic waterproof headphones, while maintaining consistent branding to avoid losing market share in Amazon and Google search rankings.

Swimming headphones face unique challenges unknown to their landlocked counterparts.  First I had to engineer solutions to the environmental concerns of bringing electronics into the water.  More importantly, to prevent water damage from improper use, I had to carefully design them to be intuitive for the user to setup and swim with each time.

Working with our sourcing partner, I developed these headphones from the ground up.  Utilizing internal testing and customer feedback data I refined everything from the size and shape of each rubber earbud tip, to the cord length, and the internal waterproofing structure.

WATERFI SWIMACTIVE HEADPHONES

At the same time that I led up the redesign of our classic waterproof headphones, I also worked on developing an entirely new product geared towards more active swimmers.

Using much of the same data and testing from the other model, I developed the SwimActive headphones.  These headphones featured a housing shape designed to contour to a swimmer’s ear and a moldable wire that held the entire unit firmly in place.

The most unique part of designing the SwimActive headphones was creating very carefully planned packaging and user instructions to prevent misuse.  Because of their ergonomic design, the headphones had to be worn in the correct ear and placed in a specific position for optimum performance.

MOAT TECHNOLOGIES WEBSITE

As part of my initial brand release, I launched an e-commerce site to showcase my product, provide customer support, and create new sales and customer leads.

I am the sole designer of all brand assets featured on the website including logos, product designs, color schemes, fonts, and advertisements.

WATERFI IOS APP

I was the lead developer and designer for a team of three that created the Waterfi companion app.  The app was designed to pair with our company’s Swim Coach and Swim Tracker devices.

Using Bluetooth, the app paired with each device to sync professionally guided swim workouts that audibly coached the user through each step of the workout and provided feedback on their progress.  Post workout, the users could track detailed stats about their swim and compare with previous results.

WATERFI RETAIL STOREFRONT

While working as an intern for Waterfi in 2011, I was tasked with designing a storefront that separated the retail space from the manufacturing space in the back.

My work included everything from developing floor plans to actually building the walls and designing the displays.

Using research from similar storefronts, I designed the space to maximize the number of customers coming in, as well as their conversion rate.  Finally, I worked with the other employees to create a design that enhanced the productivity of their workflow on the other side of the storefront since the new design cut the manufacturing space by 30%.

WATERPROOFED KINDLE PACKAGING

At Waterfi we placed a high value on resourcefulness and being able to perform as much of the manufacturing process in-house as possible.  This allowed us to stay agile, save money, and constantly adapt to customer needs.  One example I look back on fondly was using a laser cutter to create the packing for one of our products, a Waterproofed version of Amazon’s Kindle.

I carefully created this design to accomplish three goals: allow for extremely small production runs, be ultra fast to create and assemble, and look beautiful.  Using a single piece pf 8.5″x11″ card stock, I created a design for an insert that was cut and scored with a laser cuter, and easily folded to support and brand the product.

This same design was used for four years to beautifully showcase more than 10,000 Waterproofed Kindles.
